Ring in the Year of the Dragon

In the Chinese culture, the New Year is a time for gathering family, catching up with the relatives and eating foods that promote health and good fortune. It might also be the year you want or plan to say "I do!"

This year, the Chinese New Year, also called the Lunar New Year begins January 23, will welcome the Year of the Dragon, in particular the Water Dragon, which is expected to bring excitement, wealth and creativity to the year.

According to the lunar calendar, it is a leap year - the 13th month is meant to synchronize the lunar calendar with the astronomical year. The Chinese define 24 "solar terms" across the 12 lunar months, but during a leap year, there will be an extra solar term.
That is inspiring many to become "dragon couples".

The dragon is...the best of the best! Yes, this might be one of the best years ever to get married! The coming of the Year of the Dragon will be busy with weddings, buoyed by fung shui predictions that the lunar year is a prime time to tie the knot.

And related businesses can expect to do a roaring trade on December 12, or 12/12/12.
To get a place on December 12, 2012, couples started booking last year.

Chinese fung shui says the additional solar term will help a family to prosper. It is typically unusual for people to wed in the first month of the lunar calendar, but many will do so this year. Some couples have been waiting specifically for the Year of the Dragon, to get married. Some Westerners are opting for Chinese ceremonies as well.

Yes, young people, love historical concepts. A weddings might be organized in which people dress like Yang Guifei [the consort of a Tang dynasty emperor].

Morgan & Dallon's Wedding

So for nearly four months, I searched the Sierras for the perfect barn for a wedding reception area for Morgan and Dallon. High and low, near and far, I searched for the ideal wedding barn. Electricity, concrete flooring, and no mice or manure were some of my specific demands, before I could even consider serving food!

Well, I must say, that after my months of prolonged searching, I now know more about the vintage barns of Northern Nevada and California than the Historical Society! Some were truly amazing, but totally unsuitable structurally in which to place those you love and care about...not to mention the elements that might wreck havoc, as we all know they can at will in Northern Nevada.

With miles and miles of dirt roads behind me, I came to the realization that the barn I was looking for did not exist in our area.Yes, this was Morgan's request to have her wedding reception in a barn. I must say I liked the idea, and her four generations of native Nevadan ancestors would have been smiling on her if she chose such a rustic place in which to entertain her wedding guests, but it was not to be.

The next best idea was to find the most perfect ranch in all of the area. With 2011 being the 100th year anniversary of Bill Harrah's birth, Rancharrah had just received their approval to become the newest wedding venue in the Reno-Tahoe area. Yes, it certainly is the most perfect ranch in the area! We were given the honor to be their "Ginny pigs", and be the first to have a wedding held at the historic site. How lucky and blessed we felt to have this wonderful opportunity for Morgan and Dallon.

With the official wedding ceremony held in Oakland, California, the ring ceremony and dinner reception were held at the Rancharrah property. Here are some images of their most spectacular wedding day!

Sure, you have already ordered the cake, but if you know your reception won't be complete without more treats, consider creating a cookie table. An alternative to the popular candy table, a cookie table is another great way to leave a sweet taste in your guest's mouths.

This is one task that's might not be on the bride's to-do list! Get the baking done well in advance, wrap and freeze cookies until the day or two before the wedding, at which time they can be wrapped on placed on your display stands. Be sure to ask friends and family to help bake cookies for the reception cookie display.

Don't forget to provide take-home containers for your guests, along with a little thank you tag or personalized wedding sticker!

The Events Center at Red Hawk has become the premiere event location in Nevada, and it is here that Anna and Matt will celebrate with family and friends for their wedding reception and dinner.

Since the Events Center opening in 2001, Red Hawk has been the site for over 750 wedding ceremonies and receptions. The Events Center is unsurpassed in this region. Well, the BIG day is finally here! Yes, it is nearly 11-11-11, and Anna and Matt have patiently waited for 9 long years to finally become joined in marriage.

Caitlyn & Brad's Wedding

Her home is the place where most 2011 brides would pay big money to have their wedding. Caitlyn's country home is located right in the middle of town, yet you feel like you are miles from the nearest neighbor. Yes, it was the perfect place for this shabby chic bride to get her creativity going full-throttle!

With DYI elements nearly everywhere you could look, this charming home and pasture became the sacred location where Caitly and Brad became husband and wife.

The ceremony location, in the middle of the horse pasture, was lined with antique doors and windows, so many that you almost thought you were inside a chapel.
The altar arch was made from an old wooden ladder and posts with a crystal chandelier and ribbons of tuille blowing in the wind.

With the family donkey looking on from the neighboring pasture, this sweet couple began their married lives together. Family and friends could not have been more happy, and the smiles on the faces of the bride and groom, showed they were happier than they had ever been, as well!

It was an honor and a privilege to assist this wonderful couple with the planning of their shabby chic, country wedding. My best wishes and love to them as they begin their married life.

Heather & David's Wedding

Heather and David were married at the beautiful St. Francis of Assisi church in Incline Village. They had been sweethearts since high school, traveled the world together, and waited a long time for this day to arrive.

I have known Heather and her family since Heather was five years old. I have known her father since middle school. They are a wonderful family, and Heather has been a great friend to our daughter. It was fabulous to be a part of her wedding day and see her become joined to her best friend, for forever.

With the wedding ceremony in Incline Village, and the reception planned at the Top of Heavenly Valley, guests were able to enjoy the drive around The Lake, enjoying yummy bags of treats provided by the family. The Tram carried guests high atop the ridge, where the view of The Lake is truly unsurpassed. One can see nearly the entire lake at one time from this vantage point!

The food and reception party were amazing, and dancing lasted into the night. With the sunset slowly disappearing behind the mountains in the west, the glow on the lake gave everyone a lasting image of a very special day.

It was a pleasure working with both Heather and David's family throughout their wedding planning process. I wish them a lifetime of happiness and love.

Keli & Johnny's Wedding

We have assisting Keli and Johnny with the planning of their wedding day for well over a year. With all details confirmed, and all wedding elements ready to take their place, the wedding day had finally arrived. Keli and Johnny's decision to be married at the Chateau in Incline Village was the perfect choice for them.

In the middle of their year-long wedding planning, Keli and Johnny decided to move to coastal California. After several trips back up to Tahoe, we were able to finalize all the details of what would become the most important day of their entire lives.

Lake Tahoe is the most popular destination for weddings in the entire United States, and The Chateau is a favored location for weddings and receptions at Lake Tahoe. The day, weather-wise, could not have been more perfect. The Lake was it's typical royal blue, and the sky, the same. The air was warm, calm and softly scented with the smell of the pines. Yes, for those of us who live here, we know it as "the perfect Tahoe day".

Keli and Johnny were ready to make this advancement in their relationship, and with family and close friends in attendance, they quietly became husband and wife.
A buffet dinner reception followed the ceremony, and under the light-wrapped beams, they danced, laughed, kissed, and cherished the memory of this special day.

Fall 2011 Reno Bridal Expo

The Fall Reno Bridal Expo was another successful show, as we met many new brides who are planning their 2012 weddings. With our booth set complete with a vision of a "farmer's-market-meets-state-fair" theme, we welcomed many beautiful young women and their families as they easily became overwhelmed with vendor choices.

To showcase the variety of creative elements that can be part of a wedding and wedding reception, we displayed a candy hutch, filled with a variety of sweet treats and flowers, a butterfly cake with six layers of rainbow-colored deliciousness, and favor boxes filled with brightly colored macaroon cookies and cupcake liner-bows on each box top. Over-head were market place lighting and brightly-colored paper lanterns, that seemed to say, "Let's have a great time!"

Additional creative ideas filled the booth to get young brides excited as to the many ways they can make their wedding personal, no matter what their style. Weddings that combine a bit of DYI as well as traditional elements, seem to make the most memorable and creative weddings.

Orange Wedding Inspiration

The color of orange, invokes feelings of warmth, happiness and joy...what a perfect color to choose as the inspiration for your wedding! Various tones and intensities of this vibrant color, are compatible with many colors including turquoise, yellow, gray and blue.

Many brides use the color of orange for their fall or autumn wedding, although we are seeing it making it's way into weddings throughout the year. Working orange into your color palette and combining it with colors ranging from ivory to brown with a lot of maroons, reds, and oranges and some accents of yellows and gold, is the perfect combination, no matter the season.

With a love of all things natural; including hiking, the mountains and Lake Tahoe, Elizabeth and Josh's decision to be married at The Lake, was a natural one. The beauty and charm of St. Patrick's Church is dressed with decor of pinecones and baby's breath in anticipation of tomorrow's beautiful wedding ceremony.

The Tunnel Creek Lodge will serve as the spectacular venue for their wedding reception. Settled into the pine-covered foothills on the Lake's East side, the Lodge offers sleeping accommodations for up to fifteen guests. The two-level lawn covered spaces provides adequate room for tenting and open-air reception, dinner and dancing.

My Wedding Library Pretty in Pink

The Sierra Summit Mall in coordination with various retail stores, held a Wine Walk to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. The event was largely a success, with hundreds of participants supporting this wonderful cause.

My Wedding Library, a local wedding library resource for brides, held a table top competition with all decor to be done in pink. We were pleased to have been one of the participants and welcomed the guests who went from store to store. Our heartfelt love and well wishes to those who struggle with breast cancer and our thanks to all who supported the cause at yesterday's event.

Our table was designed around the theme that "the wedding you plan today, becomes tomorrow's memory...making the most important day of your life, the most memorable day in your life." With vintage reminders that the planning of your wedding is one of the most special times in a young woman's life, we are professionally experienced to assist in making this a stress-free experience.

Jen & Ken's Wedding

With clouds quickly gathering overhead, Jen and Ken decided at the last minute to move their wedding ceremony from the first tee to indoors, where all would be safe from the lightening and rain that had descended upon Reno, almost without notice.

The Somersett Grand Room was transformed into a wedding ceremony site, and Jen agreed that it was the perfect place for her to become Ken's wife. With close friends and family in attendance, this special couple began their lives together as husband and wife.

Using the popular colors of purple and green, The Loft was set in place to receive all guests for a fabulous dinner including a mashed potato bar, served in Margaretta glasses! In addition to the mashed potato bar, (which was a terrific hit!), Chef Colin Smith and his staff presented a delicious array of various passed appetizers, tri-tip of beef, and grilled chicken. Needless to say, no one went away hungry!

A candy bar offered guests plenty of sweet treats to take home when departing. Personalized golf balls were also given to every guest in attendance.

It was a beautiful day, and as the summer storm moved eastward, the sunset was the perfect backdrop for some romantic photographic moments.

It was a pleasure getting to know you, Jen and Ken, and assist you on your wedding day. You are such nice, kind people, and it was an honor to be with you as you were married. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, fun times, love and fond memories of the day you said "I do!"

Jen & Ken~Sneak Peek

Jen and Ken met on a date arranged by "It's Just Lunch". Ken said it worked perfectly for them, and this weekend, they will be married at Somersett in Reno, Nevada. On the First Tee, they will be surrounded by the most important people in their lives, as they exchange their wedding vows.

Following the ceremony, a dinner reception will be held in The Loft at Somersett.

Caitlin and Brad will be married this weekend in a grassy pasture, located on their family property. Several months ago, when Caitlin expressed her interest in being married at their family home, her mom and dad began planting grass in the pasture, knowing that one day soon, it would be the place where their youngest daughter would be married. Today, the grass has covered the once dirt-filled areas, and their donkey and their horse, Cinnamon will love the extra grass as their food, once the wedding has passed.

Caitlin and Brad's wedding style is this year's popular wedding trend called "shabby chic", and all their handmade decorations are ready to display. Antique doors and windows will take their place among the flowers and fields, and miniature lights are strung along the pasture fencing to guide guests to the large tented space.

The wrap around deck that surrounds their large country home, gives guests the feeling that they have traveled out into the country, when in fact, their home is right in the middle of the city!

It will be a wonderful day when this sweet bride and her handsome groom take their place under the wedding arch to become husband and wife. We are all excited to be a part of the most important day of their lives.

Heather and Jason will be married this weekend at Plump Jack's at the famous, Squaw Valley, California. Here's a sneak peek into the history and proposal of this wonderful couple.

How They Met

"Back in 2000, I laid eyes on Jason for the first time, we were both attending Los Gatos High School and I was a Freshman and he was a Senior. I used to (and still do!) think he was so hot with his snowboarder ways, bleach blonde hair, and cool Jeep! Sadly though, our paths didn't cross. Later on, we both graduated from Chico State and shared a mutual group of friends and yet our paths still did not collide.

A few years later Jason started playing on the Jackalopes softball team, the same softball team my dad has been playing on for 20+ years. Although, we noticed one another we were not introduce. Finally a few weeks later at a mutual friends graduation party we were formally introduced to one another and that was that!" Haven't left each other side since :)

Their Proposal

On January 24th, 2010 he got down on two knees, as he was strapped into his snowboard, and Jason popped the question in the -19 degree, white-out, stormy weather on Mountain 8 at Breckenridge Ski Resort. (Heather said yes.)

As the end of Erin's senior year came to an end she was busy with last minute projects and finals. Adam drove out for the last big hoorah before their graduations and to Erin's surprise had much bigger plans for the weekend. Adam tried and tried to convince Erin to take a walk around the gorges, but to no one's surprise, she obliviously kept saying no. Exhausted about the weight in his pocket Adam began to kneel on one knee in the middle of her room where Erin immediately proclaimed they could go to the gorges. Almost skipping to the gorges Erin and Adam found the perfect spot where Adam knelt down once again and Erin said yes.

Nicole and Rickard will be married June 18th at the Rancho San Rafael Honey's Garden. After a year and a half of planning and preparing, this wonderful couple will finally become husband and wife. Their love for one another is so evident, and their respect for one another is manifest in the way they look at and treat each other. They are both great individuals, and will be even greater as they are united in marriage.

Carissa and Brad will be married this weekend at the Twenty Mile House, outside of Graeagle, California. Here is their sneak peek, told by the bride-to-be.

"Brad and I met my freshman year of college at a party where we had mutual friends. He played football at Feather River with some guys that I went to high school with. I was there to see my old friends, he was there to meet some new ones. We made some eye contact that night, but we had to get some background info from our friends before we could get involved. We didn't actually start talking until a friend's birthday party a week later. Then we were in over our heads.

It took almost a year for the two of us to get serious about being together. We still had some growing up to do and some loose ends to tie up. To make a very long story short, he called repeatedly, we met for coffee, we talked for hours, and a couple weeks later we made it official. It didn't take much longer to see that this was love. He moved in 7 months later, we got a dog, and now we're getting hitched!

They say "When you know, you know." Well, we knew before we were even ready to admit it."

It has been wonderful assisting Carissa and Brad as they have prepared and planned for their wedding day. It will be great to finally see them become husband and wife.

Sophie & Zack's Wedding

Twenty Mile House is charming bed and breakfast as well as a wedding venue, located in Cromwell, California, just outside of Graeagle. The quaint location, situated next to the train tracks, and set into the forest along the river, was once a popular stop for those traveling by rail.

For Sophie and Zack, it provided the perfect, vintage location to exchange their wedding vows. Just as Sophie made her way down the aisle towards Zack, a whistle-blowing train flew by, making everyone chuckle as they all waited at least five minutes for it to become quite again.

It was like a step into the past, with perfect shabby chic wedding details including the banner sign, made my Sophie's Mom, and the antique typewriter left for guests to type a message to the bride and groom. Little lights and buttons of color strung through the trees, and Radio Active Band played their hearts out! What a fabulous day and a reception filled with fantastic food and entertainment, to celebrate the union of this remarkable couple.

Morgan almost dropped the class that she did not need that semester, until Dallon walked in the door. Quickly reconsidering, she sat down and stared at the hottest guy in the classroom. He drove a Harley, which made him even hotter, in her mind!

Their first date was carving pumpkins for Halloween, and now nearly two years later, they will become husband and wife this Thursday in the Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They will celebrate with family and friends at a dinner reception held at Rancharrah, the first to be held at this historic and spectacular wedding venue.

I am truly excited to celebrate this happy occasion with Morgan and Dallon! With all the love and hard work imaginable, this time I get to be the Mother of the Bride as well as the wedding coordinator! It does not get much better than that! Morgan has chosen the popular Shabby Chic/ Euro Vintage as the style she prefers for her wedding, full of hand crafted elements and a style that is family friendly, as well as classic and elegant. Janel and Manuel's wedding day was absolutely the most beautiful day at Lake Tahoe of the entire year! With late snowfall and cold weather, we all wondered if this great couple would or would not be able to take their vows on the patio overlooking the jewel of the Sierras.

Well, as luck had it, the day was glorious! The sun shone all day long, and the snow-capped mountains in the background gave definition to the beauty and majesty of this awesome location.

About the bride

I have so many things to tell about my bride to be I don't even know where to begin. First off she is breath takingly beautiful! Blessed with the most compassionate giving and loving soul one could be born with and has a heart as big as Texas!! Born in raised in Michigan relocated to ca in search of her king to be she found me. Always thoughtful and considerate sweet and sometimes mean!!! About the groom

Conan is an amazing man! I fell in love with him the first time I heard his voice. He grew up in Colorado, and then moved to Nevada. His main vice (besides me) is snowboarding, and if he can't do that he is dirt biking. His patience and kindness surprise and amaze me everyday. He is the love of my life and I cannot wait to spend forever with him!!

How we met

Eharmony....Crazy!! Conan and Amber talked on the phone every night for a month before they finally got the courage to meet. So Conan rode his motorcycle to Sacramento (almost turning around 5 times). When they met it was like meeting their best friend for the first time. After that first date they have been together almost every weekend, even traveling through snow and ice to be together.

Amber and Conan will be married at Lake Tahoe on the beautiful beach of Sand Harbor. Their dinner reception at the North Tahoe Events Center will be a wonderful celebration of their wedding day.

Obesity Prevention Luncheon at Rancharrah

The Obesity Prevention Foundation invitational luncheon was recently held at the historic Rancharrah in Reno, Nevada.

Treated by several of the area's top caterers and chefs, invited guests dined in style on the front lawn of one of Reno's finest locations, Rancharrah. With motivational guest speakers, including a recent winner from the hit TV show, The Biggest Loser, the audience was captivated with their stories and motivation to become successful with their weight and dietary habits.

A silent auction was held, and a private tour of the Rancharrah Mansion topped off the events of the day. A fashion show was held later in the evening at the Reno Events Center. Event designer, Scott Corridan, designed and coordinated the days events. Great job, Scott!

Melissa and Scott were married last Saturday on the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe. The North Tahoe Events Center is the most spectacular venue when you literally want to be married right on the shore of this amazing lake. What a fabulous view to have as your backdrop to all your wedding photos!

Melissa spent nearly every minute of her engagement preparing for her special day. She was organized from the very beginning, and had every detail laid out in perfection. Kelly green and ivory were the colors Melissa and Scott chose for the reception decor. Little bumble bees poked their heads out from every bouquet and guests received a small beehive candle as their gift from Melissa and Scott for sharing their day.

Later in the evening, the weather cleared and the sun shone through the clouds so they were able to have some photographs taken with the beautiful Lake Tahoe in the background.

"Scott and I meet in the beginning of the 2008 Raiders season. It was on the last game of the season that I took a picture of the two of us by holding my arm out. After I showed him the picture, he said "that's a cute picture, we make a cute couple". After that, he asked that I send him the picture and offered me his number so that I could send it. When I got his email, I sent the picture. After a few exchanged emails, he asked me out. We went on our first date the day after Christmas!!!! After 10 months of dating, I moved to Reno to be with him and have never looked back. I am so lucky to have met the best guy in the world. He makes me so happy. I am one very lucky girl to have met the man of my dreams!"

After an unsuccessful job search as a newly graduated nurse in CA, I finally decided to apply in Reno, NV. Lake Tahoe is beautiful and I could ski while being close to CA. But, with all of my family in friends in CO, it was tough being here and I was sure I'd only stay a year.

That's when I met Kyle. I was finishing my workout at the gym when I was approached by the cutest guy in the gym. He says I caught his attention because I was doing some silly ab exercise. Yeah, sure:) An hour later, Kyle and I were still talking and I gave him my number. That night, I got a text from Kyle saying "I think I'm supposed to wait like 72 hours to call, but I really like you." Awwww! I felt the same way and I was so happy! A week later, we had our first date. We were so excited talking to each other, it was after 10 before we even ordered dinner.

It didn't take me long to fall in love with Kyle. Three weeks after we met, in the middle of a mountain bike ride, I said "I love you" for the first time. Every day since then, we've only fallen more in love. I've never met someone so adventurous, intelligent, exciting, sweet, or handsome.

I feel so lucky to have met the love of my life here and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!

It all started July 5th, 2008...

Alonzo was enjoying a night out with his buddies, Harry, Greg, and Omar. After spending some time at one bar in downtown Reno, they decided to move to the next venue... West 2nd Street Bar.

Bethany's friend Jen decided to (almost literally) drag her out for some karaoke and dancing fun since she'd become quite a hermit. In pig-tails and a tank top Jen made Bethany buy on their way downtown, the girls arrived at West 2nd Street Bar.

As Bethany bopped her head to a catchy (and girly) Britney Spears song, she glanced out of the open window to see four BIG guys walking down the street. One, in particular, caught her eye for two reasons - because he was gorgeous AND a goofball... walking and dancing to the blasting pop song, "Gimme Gimme". To Bethany's delight, this handsome goofball and his friends turned and walked into the bar.

As Alonzo walked toward the dance floor Bethany was sitting along-side of, she stood and caught his eye. At that moment, he felt the other women in the room had become obsolete. He immediately approached her with confidence and grabbed her hand. They danced together, both goofballs, feeling a connection sparking through laughter.

They haven't gone a night without laughing together since then.

Kaylea & JD's Sneak Peek

JD has been a single dad of 4 children for the past 3 years. Kaylea has been a single mom of 2 children for the past 3 years. JD and Kaylea have gone though lots of hard and challenging trials over the years. But, they both learned so much and grew so much. They both know now exactly what they want out of life and what they want in a companion. JD and Kaylea had a hard time being able to go out and socialize because they were both taking care of their children full time. So, they both turned to the Internet. They met on an LDS website. They first started texting each other. Then they started talking on the phone as well. Finally they discovered Skype. They would get on the web cam every night and chat for 5 or 6 hours a night. It was the best thing. They got to know everything about each other. They fell in love very quickly. After doing this for a few months they decided it was time to meet. Kaylea flew out to Reno with her two boys to meet JD and his kids. The visit was more than perfect. Everyone got along beautifully. So, they made trips back and forth ever 3 weeks. After months of doing this they decided they couldn't stand to be apart anymore. Kaylea got permission from her ex-husband to move to be with JD. So, she packed up her house and moved. After Kaylea arrived she soon took over responsibility of all the kids while JD was at work. And at night when JD got home from work he helped out with all the children. They got to see how it would be to be a family. They knew they would be such a happy family together. The kids all got along so well. And Kaylea was everything JD was looking for in a companion. And JD was everything Kaylea was looking for in a companion. They both felt so lucky to have finally found someone who would make them so truly happy for the rest of their lives. They have gone through hard things since Kaylea has moved here. It turns out that her ex-husband changed his mind about Kaylea moving. So, they are facing lots of obstacles and court hearings. But, they take one day at a time and put their Faith in God that things will work out for them to be together. They got engaged and made plans for their future. On Saturday they get to finally join their families forever! They can not wait to begin their lives together and embark on their next journey together!!

Wedding Seating Procedures

Wedding Ceremony Seating Procedures

The seating of family and guests at the ceremony is determined by the floor plan of the church and the number of guests attending the wedding. The following guidelines describe the most common seating situations and procedures.

House of Worship with Center Aisle

The bride’s section for seating guests of the bride is on the left as one faces the altar; the groom’s section is on the right. Parents occupy the first pews; the fathers are seated closest to the aisle. Relatives sit with the parents and in the pews immediately behind them. The processional and the recessional are down the center aisle.

House of Worship with Two Main-Aisles and No Center Aisle

If relatively few people will be present, the right aisle can be treated as if it were a center aisle in all details, and the rest of the pews ignored. The marriage is held at the head of the right aisle.

For a medium-sized wedding, all the guests may be seated in the center section. The processional progresses up the left aisle and the recessional down the right aisle.

If the church will be fully seated, two seating options are possible. The processional and the recessional may take place on either the right or the left aisle.

Divorced Parents

Divorced parents do not occupy the same pew. The bride’s mother occupies the first pew with her mother and father or her immediate family beside her or in one or two pews immediately behind her. The bride’s father takes his place in the pew behind those occupied by his former in-laws after giving his daughter away. His own family sits beside and immediately behind him.

If the bride’s parents have remarried, her mother sits in the first pew with her current husband beside her, and the bride’s relatives on her mother’s side in the next rows. The bride’s father, his current wife, and their children, if any, occupy the next pew with the bride’s paternal grandparents, aunts, and uncles in the succeeding pews.

Ushers

Large bridal parties typically consist of several groomsmen who are each paired with a bridesmaid, as well as ushers who remain in the back of the church during the ceremony. Smaller bridal parties may have no ushers, but instead assign the ushers’ duties to the groomsmen. In either case, the ushers should arrive well in advance of the first guests (1 hour before a large wedding, 45 minutes before a smaller one). Ushers may ask female guests if they are part of the bride’s or bridegroom’s party, then escort them to the appropriate side of the church. The following is a list of seating procedures for ushers.

· The usher’s right arm is offered to arriving female guests.

· If two ladies arrive together and only one usher is available at the moment, he offers his right arm to the elder as the younger follows a few paces behind.

· When a family group arrives, an usher escorts the wife. Her children and husband follow, usually in pairs.

· An usher never offers his left arm to a guest or walks up the aisle between a couple.

· An usher should never offer his arm to a man unless the gentleman is incapacitated and in need of assistance. Instead, they walk side by side, the male guest on the usher’s right.

· Guests who arrive early are privileged to take the aisle seats if they are shown to an empty pew. They are not expected to move over when others join them in a row.

· Ushers should be told if the guest list has a disproportionate number of guests from either family so they can distribute the guests evenly.

· Ushers should also be told who the guests of honor are (parents, grandparents, and other close relatives) and if there are any unusual parental situations on either side (parents who are divorced, stepparents, or remarried parents).

· The mother of the bridegroom is seated by the head usher in the front pew or in the row on the right side with the groom’s father following a few paces behind.

· The mother of the bride is always the last to be escorted to her place. If she has a son who is acting as an usher, he takes her to her seat. If she has two sons, the older son seats her and the younger son escorts her out after the ceremony. Otherwise, she is seated by the head usher. She is seated on the left side of the sanctuary.

Traditional Processional

The entrance of the bridal party may be varied in several ways. The bridesmaids and groomsmen may walk down the aisle singly or as couples. The flower girl and ring bearer may walk together. The bride may be escorted by her mother and father together, or even by children, especially for encore weddings.

Traditional Altar Positions

In traditional weddings, the maid and/or matron of honor stands beside the bride, and the best man stands beside the groom. The remaining attendants stand one step behind and to the sides of this foursome. Usually, all of the bridesmaids stand to the left of the maid/matron of honor and all of the groomsmen stand to the right of the best man. For smaller bridal parties or when there is room on or near a large altar, the bridesmaids and groomsmen may be arranged in a single row. When there is a large number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, they may be divided into two rows. A second option is to group half of the bridesmaids and half of the groomsmen on each side of the wedding couple with the women in front of the men. Often the bridal party will move at different parts of the ceremony and may face the congregation for all or part of the wedding.

Traditional Recessionals

There are two different recessional styles for formal weddings. Following the exit of the entire bridal party, the head ushers typically return to the front of the church and escort the mothers of the bride and groom down the aisle. The fathers follow behind them. Then, the ushers return to the front of the church again and signal guests to exit one row of pews at a time.

In the recessional for the Orthodox and Conservative Jewish ceremony, a flower girl may or may not be a part of this procedure. The rabbi sometimes follows the parents.

Receiving Line

The receiving line may take place in the vestibule of the church if the reception is to be small and informal. If the bride and groom request it, the receiving line may be held at the reception if there is a large number of guests attending the wedding.

The receiving line may be ordered so that the parents stand together as a couple or stand with each other’s spouses. The best man, ushers, and child attendants are not traditionally included in the receiving line; however, the bride may choose to have them take part, especially in an informal situation.

The guests should begin at the left end of the line and proceed to the right.

· The men of the wedding party wear their boutonnieres on their left lapels.

· The bride and groom wear their wedding rings on their left hands.

· During the wedding ceremony, the bride wears her engagement ring on her right hand.

If you had begun looking for small intimate wedding ideas three or four years ago the information available would not have answered very many of your questions. The appeal and flexibility of smaller affairs, however, has carved out popular a new wedding trend. For a variety of reasons that range from a desire for an intimate and romantic experience to budget constraints, more and more brides are choosing smaller venues and inviting fewer guests. Recent economic events have put serious financial strains on American families and caused couples to put off or forego a wedding all together. Don't give up--there are still great ways to pursue your dream.

Budget issues aside, there are other significant reasons for planning a small wedding. If money is not a problem smaller weddings will give you an opportunity to spend lavishly on a few guests rather than conservatively on many. Smaller venues and fewer guests create a more intimate and romantic setting. A short guest list means that you and your new spouse can spend time actually talking to the people who have come to help you celebrate one of the most important days of your life. Weddings may be many things but they are first and foremost celebrations. Inviting the friends and family who are closest you can be much more meaningful and MEMORABLE than the pageantry of a large wedding. I am sad when I hear women say that the day passed in a blurr that they can barely remember.

Suggested Settings for Small Weddings

One of the first steps in planning a small wedding is determining the guest list. Who do you include? Both of you should come up with a list. Start with your immediate family and closest friends. Then set a limit and begin adding to or narrowing down the list. When you have a number and a budget in mind start compiling a list of venues from internet searches, local magazines, and suggestions from friends and family. You'll probably want to skip the local fire hall, but Inns and Bed & Breakfasts can create wonderful settings. Consider your own home and the homes of family members. Local restaurants that could not accommodate a large reception may be perfectly willing to work with you for a smaller group. Museums, historic houses, and botanical gardens are often available for a reasonable fee. Many resorts and hotels offer special packages.

If you are considering a destination wedding do your homework. Ask questions, get the details of your package in writing, and check the venue's reputation thoroughly. Requesting references from any venue is perfectly appropriate. The site may also have photo albums of past weddings. If your first impression of the staff or the place is anything less than dazzling--save yourself some stress and move on to another option.

Choosing to have a small intimate wedding can actually open up more possibilities rather than limit them.

Robyn & Mike's Wedding

Japanese Mythology believed the crane live for 1,000 years. Japanese culture has treasured the crane as a symbol of honor, loyalty and peace. The crane is a majestic bird which mates for life and is extremely loyal and devoted to its mate.

The ancient practice of a man and woman folding 1,000 cranes for their wedding is call Sengazuru. The time an energy but into the thousand hand-folded origami cranes symbolized the patience, perseverance and trust necessary to sustain an happy marriage.

A couple who could weather the long, time-intensive folding process together, supporting each other, talking with each other for weeks while taking on a challenging task, was proving their ability to maintain a long term and content relationship. Therefore, a senbazuru at a couple's wedding symbolizes the expected longevity of their marriage.

Robyn and Mike chose the symbol of the Origami crane for their wedding reception theme. Together, they hand made over 1000 paper cranes which hung from the ceiling and decorated their cake. Miniature cranes were inside each favor box along with homemade soft caramel candies.

Through the process of making these 1,000+ cranes tor their wedding, Robyn and Mike learned some valuable lessons. One such lesson was that enormous undertakings cannot be done all at once, In fact, the job would seem overwhelming. But, if done a little at a time, if worked on everyday, pretty soon they would have accomplished something great. They believe the same principle will apply to their marriage and their future together.

Robyn and Mike, it was such a lovely pleasure assisting you with your wedding. The sea of floating cranes suspended from the ceiling, is a beautiful, memorable vision that is locking within my mind, and will remain there for a long, long time to come. One Of The Oldest Wedding Traditions

One of the oldest traditions surrounding weddings is the saving of the top tier

of the cake to be eaten on the couple’s first anniversary or at the birth of their first child. Although still observed by some couples this tradition seems to be falling by the way side as the cost of wedding cakes has sky-rocketed. However, if you plan on keeping and freezing the top tier of your wedding cake then it is important to mention this to your cake designer before hand.

Your cake designer will be able to tell you how to properly remove and freeze the top tier of your wedding cake. They will also be able to tell whether or not the cake will keep for a year or if you should be planning on eating the cake for your third month anniversary instead.

If you are planning on keeping the top tier of your wedding cake, then one thing is definite – you must properly package the cake to prevent it from freezer burn. You must also freeze it as quickly as possible after the ceremony so that it seals in as much of the freshness as possible. Another option is to have your cake designer bake you a miniature version of your cake to eat at a later date – that way you can truly savor the delicious treat that you may be too distracted to really taste the day of your wedding.

The wedding cakes that we know and love today were not always the way they

look or taste. The tradition of serving cake at a wedding goes all the way back to the ancient Greeks. The newly wed couple would cut cake together to symbolize fertility and happiness – it is from where we get our modern custom of cake cutting at a wedding.

However this custom was not always in vogue. The Romans did have a form of cake at their weddings, but instead of eating this wheat or barley cake, the groom would break it over the bride’s head. The crumbs that fell to the floor were then gathered up by the guests as tokens of good luck. A similar tradition of breaking a cake over the bride’s head continued for many centuries with some reports from Scotland dating as recently as the 19th century.

This custom slowly gave way to another whereby guests actually brought cakes to the reception. These cakes were then layered together using applesauce – the higher the cake, the more popular the bride. Another custom that was widely popular during the Middle Ages involved the guests bringing sticky buns to the reception and piling them up in front of the happy couple. If the couple were able to kiss over the top they were supposed to be blessed with a long and happy marriage and many children.

In the eighteenth century brandied fruit cakes were a big hit because they were able to keep for so long. The Pilgrims brought this tradition over to the Americas and the fruit cake slowly evolved into the white, tiered cake that has come to symbolize wedding receptions.

Today the white cake has again evolved. Modern wedding cakes can be any color, any flavor and any style. How it happened! (Written by Robyn)

Following the excellent advice of the Mad Hatter, I guess I should begin at the beginning and when I get to the end, I will stop. Well it all began with my sister joining an RPG group. For the lay person, RPG is an acronym for role playing game. You might be familiar with Dungeons and Dragons. RPGs are most commonly done on the computer thus heightening the nerd factor even more. But I am pleased to announce that my sister's group was playing it old school with minis and dice.

Moving on!

Arynn

told me that there was a guy there I should meet. She said he was funny and in the school psych. program at UNR. Well, that didn't sound so bad. She also said he was majorly into health stuff and working out etc. I wasn't sure he would dig me if he was super into working out. Typically, birds of a feather flock together, and while I am well aware of the health benefits of exercise and make continual resolutions to incorporate more of it into my daily routine, I would by no stretch of the truth be considered a health nut. Anyhow, I figured that joining the group would be a fun enough reason to get out of the house and at the very least perhaps this Michael guy and I could be friends.
Well long story short, I came, I saw, I seduced! Ha!

We immediately began to flirt shamelessly through our characters. But we really only saw each other once a week on game day. Then one day out of the blue, he sent me a text message that said. "I miss You". At first I thought he might have sent it to the wrong person. So I confirmed that he did, in fact, miss me, Robyn Voss. A week or so later he sent me a text asking me out on a lunch date after we RPGed.

We had a great time at lunch and talked for 3 hours! It was a great first date. We even talked about him possibly applying for a teaching position at the school I work at. Then I hear nothing from him for over a week. I begin to figure he is not interested. Then out of the blue he texts me again. We set up another date (this time a study date). In the mean time, he is flirting hard during RPG. Always sitting next to me, being really affectionate, kissing the back of my hand etc. Once he even kissed me on the forehead. By the time of the date, I'm pretty sure he is fairly interested.

So, on the night of the "study date", He is all sitting close to me, showing me all his kung fu stuff, massaging my feet while he quizzes me etc. He even kissed me on the toe. So I was batting my eyes, sitting really close, doing the geisha thing of looking demurely back and forth between his eyes and lips and....nothing! I couldn't believe it. I thought for sure he would kiss me but nothing! GRRR. At the end of the night I was walking him out to his car and he gives me a hug and kisses me on the cheek, but it's a lingering kiss...which starts creeping towards the lips. Finally, we made contact and he was smitten.
So that is the beginning.

“His” Side of the Story . . . How We Met (Written by Michael)

I had no idea I was being set up. All I knew was that Arynn was bringing her sister to come try out role-playing. At hearing this, I wasn’t even hopeful of a potential connection, I was actually more concerned that this new person might change the really good dynamic that was in our role-playing group than I was optimistic about any potential romance. Clearly, I had no idea what was coming my way. What a treat Robyn turned out to be! Not only did she add to the role-playing experience, but she laughed at every one of my jokes which made me feel great and led me to keep joking and flirting with her. Before I knew it, our characters were flirting shamelessly during the adventures (her character happened to be wealthy and would pay for my character’s expenses, but my guy would carry all her gear on our cross-country hikes). When we weren’t gaming, Robyn and I also had some amazing conversations off the bat. I actually enjoyed just talking with her so much that I invited her to lunch solely for the pleasure of more conversation—not intending to pursue anything beyond friendship.

Even though I had an amazing three hour lunch with Robyn on our first outing, I didn’t really have any plans to ask her out again because of a misunderstanding that took place. We were talking about religion and dating and I thought I was reading correctly between the lines in something she said and came away with the idea that she was only interested in men of the LDS faith for long-term relationships. What's funny is she was actually trying to tell me just the opposite--don't ask me how this mix-up occurred! Nevertheless, this glitch explains my week of inaction following our first date. What happened next I simply can’t explain. I was at work, standing over my desk where my cell phone lay. An image of Robyn suddenly entered my mind’s eye accompanied with numerous positive emotions that I had experienced when in her company. I grabbed my cell phone off the desk and before even thinking through what I was doing, punched a quick three word text message to her: “I miss you.” I dropped the phone on my desk after I sent it and thought “what the heck did I do that for? You hardly even know this girl and just went out with her the one time.” Although this was a genuine expression of mine, it was a totally impulsive action which is totally unlike me—Mr. Planner. I became anxious that maybe I said too much with those three words too soon. Fortunately, after Robyn was assured that I had texted the right girl, she responded with "Well, it just so happens that I kinda miss you too."

I couldn't get her off my mind and so, as Robyn mentioned, I asked her for a study date. I volunteered to help her prepare for an upcoming test under the pretense of being a friend. Because of my misinterpretation from our lunch conversation, I thought that she would want to keep things that way, not to mention the fact that I planned to apply for a job where she worked. If things eventually didn’t work out—which let’s face it, they never had in my 28 years with anyone (why should I expect this to be any different?)—that would make for an awkward situation. So I was playing it smart. I tried really hard not to kiss Robyn and potentially make things weird. I was just there to help her study! . . . and enjoy the cinnamon rolls she baked for me when I came over. . . and maybe to massage her feet as a way of showing my appreciation . . . and maybe to allow myself to kiss her adorable toes . . . and maybe to pause just long enough to smell her sweet perfume after that kiss on the cheek late at night under a starry sky on a crisp night. Jeez, looking back I didn’t even stand a chance!

Robyn and Mike, it will be a pleasure assisting you on your wedding day! I cannot wait to see the 1000 yellow paper cranes hanging from the ceiling!

Start looking for invitations. Begin compiling your guest lists and collecting addresses.

Order invitations. Make sure your spelling is correct. Know to whom your response cards are being returned to, and have the correct return address and zip code as well as the event time. If using a calligrapher or other people to help address your invitations, order an additional 10 to 15% outer envelopes.

Start addressing invitations, doing a few at a time. Hire a calligrapher if you are going to do so.

Lori & Mike's Wedding

Lori and Mike were married yesterday at Piper's Opera House in historic Virginia City, Nevada. Close family members and friends witnessed the unique and special event.

Their lovely Virginia City wedding was designed around two elements – Vintage and Celtic. The theme was carried out through a rich color palette of greens and blues. Exotic orchid arrangements, designed by the bride, offered a display of vivid color, while cameras placed along the tables, offered guests the opportunity to capture the moments of the day. Ceitic hearts decorated the three-tiered cake, and a pair of Celtic angels adorned the top.

Lori and Mike cut their first piece of cake using the silver cake knife and server that belonged to Lori's Grandmother...a cake knife that had only been used to cut wedding cakes. Fourteen wedding cakes, in fact, had been cut using this vintage silver serving set. As with all the other fourteen wedding cakes, Grandma insisted on having the honor of cutting Lori and Mike's cake, but after the first slice, she turned to knife over to me saying that was enough... she did not want to cut the entire cake...but at least she could at least say that she cut the cake!

The spotlight shone down on Lori and Mike as they danced their first dance together, and the sparkle in Lori's eyes said it all... their love was going to last forever.

Lori and Mike, thank you for the pleasure of assisting you on your wedding day. I have come to know you and love you, and a piece of my heart will be with you always. Lori & Mike Sneak Peek

The first time I met Mike and Lori, I knew they were special. It was easy to see the love they have for one another. The bond that they have is amazing, and it will be a great thrill to see them become husband and wife this upcoming weekend.

Like many couples, Mike and Lori met on eHarmony. Yes, traditional methods of meeting someone new are going more and more by the wayside. After going through all the introductory steps and emailing back and forth for about a week, Mike and Lori decided to talk on Yahoo chat. They talked online for about a month and a half before they decided to meet face to face.

For their first date, Mike picked Lori up from her apartment, and they went to the movies. Afterward, Lori said that Mike did most of the talking. After a few weeks, they went on their second date and they have been together ever since. They have been together four years this June.

Mike and Lori have chosen the famous Piper's Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada to be married. Lori has planned with great detail, her flowers, bridal gown, and reception decor, while Mike has had a hand in the selection of the reception food and set up. It is fun to see how excited they are for this day to finally arrive! What a unique and exciting venue for this special couple to become husband and wife. It will be a sincere pleasure assisting them on the most important day of their lives, and I look forward to that day with great excitement!

Feed Your Vendors? Feed Your Vendors!

So here’s the skinny on lessons learned from being a wedding coordinator, when it comes to feeding your wedding day vendors.

What: For buffet or plated meal receptions, most hotels or caterers provide vendor meals at a discounted price. While it is not necessary to provide your vendors the same food you are providing your guests, oftentimes it is just easier and something your vendors would appreciate. At times, that might not be an option, particularly if you are doing a banquet-style reception. In that case, your options are probably to include your vendor in your headcount (if you plan to seat them), or to order individually boxed meals that your caterer can prepare separately.

When: Most often, the best time to give your vendors a break is during the dinner hour. At that moment, all your guests are eating and conversing, and there isn’t any major action going on. If you are planning to use that time to greet your guests and take table pictures, you can consider having a friend help take some quick images, giving your photographer and videographer a break. As coordinators, we typically plan to serve the photographer, dj and videographer right after the bridal party and immediate families have been served. This allows those busy vendors adequate time to eat and get back into place to continue with their work for the night, without missing any important elements of the evening. Coordination vendors always eat after everyone else has been served. In terms of how much time to allow, most vendors do not take a long break-just enough time to catch their breath and grab some sustenance in order to continue working effectively...for you!

Where: Establish beforehand what your vendor’s expectations are! Oftentimes, vendors have a wide range of expectations when it comes to being fed. Some vendors expect to be seated in a separate room, since it would give them a real break (as opposed to a sense of being “on call”). On the other hand, some vendors feel it is necessary to be seated in the main dining room. Some vendors prefer this option so that they can see what is going on and be ready to service you should any circumstance arise.

Many vendor contracts stipulate their meal requirement. At the very least, ask the extra people if they would like to be fed, so that you can add them to your total. Please recognize as a bride or groom, that just because a vendor does not have it written in their contract to be fed, that they should not be bed! Please feed them! Always do the proper, gracious thing, keeping you honored and respected in the eyes of ALL the people attending your wedding and reception...and that includes the vendors who will make you and your reception look fantastic, with wonderful memories for years and years to come.

Well, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. The answer has a dual structure, just like the structure of this special day. First, you have to plan the wedding ceremony that is centered on YOU~the bride and groom! Yes, you are the most important figures of the moment. Other essential details are the rings, the vows and, obviously an Officiant to ‘seal the deal’. The second part that needs special attention is the wedding reception; the moment when you highlight more the needs of your guests than your own. Nevertheless, the reception often causes much concern and stress among brides and grooms.

The wedding reception might be trickier to plan than the wedding ceremony. There are a couple of reasons why. First of all, it involves a combination of items you would like to incorporate and items you think your guests would also appreciate. You want to show them your appreciation for being there by your side. Secondly, the wedding reception deals with caterers, decorators, florists, musicians and so on. It is a big team behind your moment; a lot of people working hard to make this a very special evening. The main concerns are the quality of the services offered to your guests and provided by certain wedding vendors but also the artistic side of the reception. It has to be both original and interesting, to surprise your guests and to make them feel amazing.

Your wedding day doesn’t need to be so exaggerated or so demanding, but it does need to be done within a reasonable budget. You want to dare for the best and accept nothing less.

Addressing Wedding Invitations~Help!

Addressing wedding invitations for a traditional formal wedding

* Use full names and titles

* You should not use any abbreviations like St. or Ave.
make sure and write out the full word

* When addressing wedding invitations the addresses on the envelopes should be neatly hand written

* Hand delivery is a no-no. Every guest should be sent an invitation through the mail (this includes both sets of parents)

* Addressing wedding invitations should be done fairly early. Invitations should be mailed 6 - 8 weeks prior to the event, and at least 8 weeks prior for out of state guests or those living further away. RSVP's should be returned to you about 4 weeks prior to the wedding date.

How to address an envelope

When addressing wedding invitations for a traditional formal wedding they are sometimes sent using two envelopes - an inner envelope and an outer envelope. The inner envelope is not necessary but aids in informing your guest to exactly who is invited and who is not. It also contains all the smaller cards and maps so they will not get overlooked as easily. If you choose not to use two envelopes you can still address the outside of the envelope to include those specific guests which are invited.

Weddings are not always so traditional anymore!

More and more often couples are shying away from the traditional and/or typical kind of wedding. If the wedding is completely non-traditional then why should you have to stick so closely to the rules? After all rules were made to be broken. For a completely non-traditional wedding there is no reason that addressing the wedding invitations should be done traditionally.

* Don't want to spend forever handwriting each and every envelope? Or what if you just have terrible handwriting? It is becoming more acceptable to have the addresses printed instead. I would not recommend printing address labels as these tend to look cheap and shabby. However I would recommend printing the addresses straight onto the envelope. You can do this using your home computer's printer. Your local printer will also print the addresses for you.
Using this method is also a good way to give the envelope a little extra class. Try using a snazzy (but easy to read) font. At least there will be no worrying about your messy handwriting.

Here's how to print them perfectly:

1. Using either your word processing program or desktop publishing software when opening a new document choose File and then select Page setup or Document setup. This should open a new window where you will set the size of the page and margins. Just set the size of the page to the exact size of your envelope.

2. Once you have set your page up to the size of your envelope just type in your return and forwarding address.

3. Print it! Make sure your printer setup shows your paper size as that of your envelope. Otherwise it will not print correctly onto the envelope.

4. Now just go back and change the forwarding address to the next guest on the list.

A few more tips for addressing wedding invitations

* If you choose to hand write your envelopes make sure you use a good permanent marker or pen. If the envelope happens to get wet in the mail the ink may run all over, perhaps to the point that it cannot be read.

* Try decorating your envelopes with stickers or even a wax seal on the seam!

* Go ahead and hire a calligrapher! Addressing your envelopes will seem a lot easier and they will look beautiful!

* Send separate invitations to any family members who are over the age of 18.
